FAQs
What is Little Athletics?
Little Athletics is a modified athletics program for children of all abilities aged 3 - 17 years. It is based on a wide range of track and field events including: running, jumping, throwing and walking. Little Athletics promotes that it is important to “Be Your Best” ®. The emphasis is on fun, participation, performance, technique and getting involved with your family in physical and healthy activity. The motto of Little Athletics is ‘Family, Fun and Fitness”. PROMOTING INCLUSIVENESS Little Athletics SA recognises that all children have the same rights to equality and we aim to provide an inclusive environment in which barriers to involvement are removed and all young people feel welcome and comfortable to participate. All our clubs throughout South Australia are able to cater and provide an enjoyable experience to all children, regardless of their ability.
What is the Tiny Tots program?

This is a modified program that is designed to develop the children’s fundamental movements of running, jumping and throwing through fun and enjoyable activities. The aim of the program is to improve the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of children through a play-based approach that is engaging and stimulating.

What do Parents need to do at each meet?
All parents are expected to offer their assistance as a volunteer throughout the season. Once your child has been allocated to their group, please make your way to the age group basket, check your child in using the clipboard and wait with your child. As a parent, you will need to help move the group around to the different events as per the schedule provided in the clipboard. Our committee members will be stationed at the events and will take charge once the group arrives. Committee members will need assistance at each event with measuring, timing and recording - this is a requirement to ensure our meets can run successfully. There is a Set Up & Pack Down as well as a BBQ roster that will be sent to parents before each meet. It is not acceptable to leave your children unattended or in the care of committee members, unless you are assisting another of your children in their age group and you have communicated this to a committee member. If you cannot support your child, please organise a family member or friend to come along.
What do we bring at each meet?
Participants will need to bring a clearly labelled drink bottle and a hat. Please put sunscreen on your child/ren before they come.
Can we take pictures of our children?
South Australian Little Athletics Association (SALAA) has a child protection policy that can be provided upon request. We will ensure that this is followed during all our events and that the safety of the children is always a priority. Please be aware that parents ARE allowed to take photographs of their children using their mobile phones and these photos may be shared to individual social media pages. We will NOT permit anyone to take photographs using a professional camera or wide angled lens. Anyone using a professional camera or wide angled lens will be asked to stop immediately. If you do not want your child to be photographed, please contact us prior to the meet so we can make the necessary arrangements.
